MONDAY, JUNE 14TH
8:30 AM - MEET AT COBO CONVENTION CENTER
Autoworkers and retirees are busy getting ready for the UAW's Convention on June 13-17. With emails, meetings and teleconferencing, they have discussed, debated and crafted resolutions spelling out a turnaround plan for the union. These resolutions have been voted on and passed at local union meetings and by retiree chapters. Workers and retirees who support these resolutions are being elected by local union memberships to represent them as their delegates at the Convention.
Plans are underway for a Solidarity Rally at the start of the Convention, Sunday June 13th. This, the 35th Constitutional Convention, brings the union to a fork in the road. Will we take the high road of rebuilding our union and solidarity to take on the challenges we face, or will it be business unionism as usual? The power is in the delegates' hands to decide in what must be a democratic convention where the rank and file can be heard.
As of April 29th, 45 days before the quadrennial event , the UAW has made no mention of its Convention on its website, or in the pages of Solidarity Magazine. So FYI: The UAW Convention will be held in Cobo Hall in downtown Detroit, beginning 10 am Monday, June 14 and will conclude Thursday, June 17. Delegates will register 12-7 pm on Sunday, June 13 and again at 7-10 am on Monday.
